Oslo Songwriting Camp

October 12-15, 2009 saw the first annual Oslo Songwriting Camp, organized by Waterfall Music in close co-operation with BMI (UK), Sony/ATV (London/Stockholm) and Music Export Norway, with additional financial support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in London.

No less than 15 songwriters from every corner of the world (well, almost) were gathered at the Waterfall House in Oslo for four creative and inspirational days of songwriting workshops.

There was also time for recreational and socializing activities, like a boat cruise on the idyllic Oslo fjord – and of course several visits to the local pub.

From Sony/ATV Stockholm came Jade Ell and Niclas Kings. The London office sent Molly McQueen, Iain James and New Zealand-original Virginia Blackmore. Universal writers Dsign (Anne Judith Wik and Nermin Harambasic) and Hanne Sørvaag joined also, while EMI was represented by Martin Sjølie. All the way from LA came Spirit Music’s Allan Rich and writing partner Jud Friedman – all to be topped off by Waterfall writing team Jim & Jack (AKA Lars Aass and Ole Henrik Antonsen), Odd Harald Jensen and London based Swede Jonas Myrin.

During 5 writing sessions this diverse group of writers teamed up, track-makers found top-liners, some amazing pop music came to life, and personal as well as professional relationships were tied.

Sony/ATV Creative Manager Melanie Redmond flew in from London to give the campers an up-to-the-minute brief about current projects on the lookout for songs. BMI’s Executive Director, Writer/Publisher Relations, Europe & Asia Brandon Bakshi also paid a visit to the camp and joined the assembly for a memorable dinner at the spectacular Dyna lighthouse in the Oslo fjord.
