Waterfall Records

Ida on the Jay Leno Show

While Ida Maria is currently taking a well deserved breather following a couple of top-paced years of recording, travelling and gigging (she’ll be back, well rested, early next year), other Waterfall projects are moving forward towards a hopefully very busy schedule:

Blackroom E-flyer

December 7th, Blackroom will be playing a showcase at Water Rats in London, premiering new tracks for the English fans and industry representatives. The band spent a September week in the Waterfall Studio with Dave Bascombe recording new songs, and is very exited to present them along with “old” hits, branding their new name for the British audience.  You can listen to some of the new songs on their MySpace.

Montée

One project that’s new to Waterfall, if not quite a debut project, is Montée. This Oslo-based band has created a musical landscape that may cause a bit of a west coast nostalgia, presented in a contemporary wrapping. This summer saw the release of their debut album “Isle of Now”, which received very nice reviews and got some heavy radio rotation. Their sophomore album is now in the process of being written, and production will hopefully commence not too far into the new year.

Brandyn Burnette

A brand new project, both for the artist and Waterfall, is the young American singer/songwriter Brandyn Burnette. Earlier this fall he spent a week in our studio recording, with a handful of our favourite session musicians, and some amazing tunes emerged. These songs are now getting the finishing touch by Kai & Kenneth, and very soon will be ready for presentation. Meanwhile we are synchronizing our calendars to find a good time to bring Brandyn back for more writing and recording.

Waterfall Music

Dyna lighthouseThe most important event for our publishing company this fall was hosting the first annual Oslo Songwriting Camp (OSC) this October. With the help and support of Sony/ATV, BMI (UK) and Music Export Norway we welcomed songwriters from both London, Stockholm, Los Angeles, Trondheim and Oslo – all in all a party of 16 songwriters who were mixed and matched, re-mixed and re-matched through 5 intense days. The result: a collection of cool tracks which we hope will find their way to albums in the near future, a massive extension of networks for everyone, and a burning desire to do it all again next year. And we will; most likely the next OSC will go down in April 2010 – stay tuned for more information…

Waterfall Music is also, as always, constantly working towards the next big thing. These days it’s all about songwriting/trackmaking for placement through Sony/ATV (London/Stockholm). In time of writing our dynamic duo Jim & Jack are accompanied by the lovely Ginny McGrail in their Waterfall studio, making more of those fantastic tracks we’ve come to expect from this trio.

Echo_Leona_LewisAlso – recently released song written by Ina Wroldsen: “My Hands” on Leona Lewis‘ new album Echo. This adds to an already impressive list of cuts for Ina this year, including the Saturdays, Pixie Lott and the Pussycat Dolls, to name but a few.

Waterfall Production

Will Can SingThis part of the Waterfall Group has also had a busy few months. We have had the pleasure of producing an album for English pop-jazz artist Parry Ray, previously mentioned Brandyn Burnette, and just last week we wrapped up the recording of an album for the English band Will Can Sing – formerly known as the Ryes.

So – with a busy half year behind us, we’re looking forward to winding down a bit over the holidays – but only to recharge the batteries and get ready for the new , even busier, year!

Best wishes for the holidays from all of us at Waterfall!
